CineSeek
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 July 2026
CineSeek is a personalized movie and TV discovery app. This policy explains exactly what we store, why we store it, who else can see it, and how you can delete it.
The short version. We store the account you create and the taste signals you generate inside the app. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not embed advertising or analytics trackers. You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
CineSeek is an independent, non-commercial project. For any question about this policy or your data, contact us at the address in section 9.
2. What we collect
2.1 Account data
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | Sign-in, password reset, account recovery. Required. |
| Password | Stored only as a salted hash by our authentication provider. We never see it. |
| Username and avatar choice | Shown to other users on your profile, posts and comments. |
2.2 Taste and activity data
This is what makes the recommendations work. All of it is generated by your own use of the app:
- Favourite genres you pick during onboarding or later in Settings
- Titles you add to your watchlist, mark as watched, favourite, follow or hide
- Ratings you give to titles
- Episodes you mark as watched
- A derived taste profile (genre and keyword weights) computed from the above
2.3 Social data
- Posts, reviews, comments, likes and emoji reactions you create
- Accounts you follow, and accounts you block
- Reports you submit about other users' content
2.4 On your device only
Some data never leaves your phone: interface language, theme and playback settings, search history, recently viewed titles, cached lists so the app opens instantly, and a queue of actions taken while offline. Signing out or deleting your account clears this local data.
2.5 What we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no third-party trackers
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
- No location, contacts, microphone or camera access
- Photo library access is requested only when you choose to change your profile picture, and only the image you pick is used
3. Who can see your data
Your email address is never visible to other users. Your username, avatar and anything you post publicly are visible to other signed-in users.
For profile sections — favourites, taste profile, statistics, watchlist and watched list — you control visibility in Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Profile Visibility. Each section can be set to public, friends (mutual follows only) or off. Watchlist and watched list are off by default.
4. Service providers
| Provider | Role | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication, database and hosting | Your account and activity data |
| The Movie Database (TMDB) | Film and TV catalogue | Search terms and title IDs you view. No account data. |
| Google News RSS, newsdata.io | Film news headlines | Title names used to build news queries. No account data. |
| Expo / Apple / Google | App delivery and local notifications | Standard platform data. Notifications are scheduled on your device. |
We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, and we do not share it for advertising.
5. How long we keep it
- Account and taste data: until you delete your account.
- Behavioural signals used for recommendations: pruned automatically over time.
- Content reports: retained while moderation is in progress, so repeat abuse can be acted on.
- Data on your device: until you sign out, delete your account, or uninstall the app.
6. Deleting your account
Settings ▸ Other ▸ Delete account. This is permanent and immediate. It removes your profile, posts, comments, likes, follows, ratings, watch data and taste profile from our database, deletes your authentication record, and clears the app's data on your device. It cannot be undone.
You can also change your username, edit your genre preferences, or reset your recommendation model at any time from Settings.
7. Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Access to your rows in our database is enforced at the database layer with row-level security, so one account cannot write to another account's data. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you have found a vulnerability, please contact us at the address below rather than disclosing it publicly.
8. Children
CineSeek is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. The app surfaces film and television content intended for a general adult audience, including titles with mature themes. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
9. Contact and changes
Questions, data requests or takedown notices: cineseek.app@gmail.com
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change affects how your data is used, notify you in the app.
